WALX PRESTON weekly news
Wow guys, what a week.
Firstly, I hope you are all safe and well. At least to the best of your ability in light of the extenuating circumstances.
Secondly, thank you all for coming together and sharing your positivity, love, inspiration and motivation with your walks, posts, emails and comments.
As difficult and uncertain as things may be, I encourage you to LIVE in this very moment each and every day. Prime yourself to make the most out of each and every minute of each and every day, whether working on your health and fitness, or utilising your skills and efforts as a key worker, or simply being there for others.
If nothing else, declutter the damn cupboards and tidy up the garden. Drink plenty of water, eat plenty of vegetables, and make the most of your hour of permitted outdoor exercise.
Walx Preston Buddy System
If you are a monthly member you will have now all received emails about our Buddy support system. Please liaise directly with your Walx Guide or Instructor as per the email. Thank you for keeping in touch and letting us know you’re ok.
If you need any help or support please don’t hesitate to ask any of the team.
Online Learning Platform
The first Home Walx exercise session is available in the learning platform.
I have been invited by WALX HQ to participate in the creation of exercise videos that will be available to walkers across the country. The first of these will be available early this week.
A range of videos are in production from stretching, thru strengthening, Aerobic exercise, Pilates, Tai Chi, to Hills and Drills and more.
You will be able to follow these video exercises at your own pace, and/or join some live online classes that are coming soon.
Mugs and Hugs virtual coffee meet ups
We had another successful meet up to his Friday via Zoom.
A recording of the session is available on our YouTube channel should you wish to view it.
New this week will be a Wine and Giggles evening. Once we have the results in from the poll we shall provide an update of time and day.
Please be invited to join Angela’s Angels group at the World Waking challenge website.
World Walking invites you to find fun in fitness and reap the benefits of a healthier, active lifestyle.
Matt shall be holding a live Zoom call at 8:30pm on Monday 30th March with screen sharing and explanations on how to join World Walking, set up a profile, add miles or steps, join Angela’s group, and join the individual challenges set up under the group.
There are already 15 of our members in the group, so you are sure to find motivation, inspiration and other benefits from being involved.
Since 23rd March I have banked 50000 steps and have spent 45000 of those on the Edinburgh and the Ireland challenges.
I’ll talk you all through it on the call tomorrow evening.

Brilliant ! We are already at 66 subscribers ! Thank you.
If you are not yet subscribed to the channel (it’s free) please do join us and take a look around.
Check out Sue and Andy’s Foodie corner on our channel. The first installment is Farinata with Kale Pesto. Click here to access the video.
I have yet to make it, but I do have the Gram flour and the Kale in stock now, so I look forward to attempting that this week.
I do know that Sue and Andy have already filmed their second installment and we’ll be uploading that over the coming days.
If you have your own ideas or skills that you would like to share with the group please get in touch with Matt and we will start the ball rolling.
We have created a Walx Preston Strava club too. If you are using Strava already then please do join the group.
We’ll be updating you on the leaderboard stats in the coming weeks.
We shall also hold an online Zoom call about getting on to Strava soon.
Walx Preston Newsletter
If you’d like to increase your chances of getting one or more months free membership, as described above, you might find it beneficial to share this newsletter with your friends, family and colleagues.
Here are your Walx Preston invites for this week:
Monday 8:30 pm – How to use World Walking (Zoom)
Tuesday 7:30 pm – Online Community Quiz (Zoom).
This is not a Walx Preston event, but it is hosted by Phil Parramore, one of our monthly members.
Access the Zoom room for a 7:30pm start here.
Wednesday 6:15 pm – Group walk (Zoom/Outdoors)
We invite you to join our Walx Preston Zoom room at 6:15pm for a 10-minute introduction and warm up. Be ready in your gear and have your poles at the ready.
We shall then all go offline and go for a 35-minute walk.
Be back at 7pm to jump back on Zoom for cool downs and a quick dose of collective positivity.
Friday 9:30 am – Mugs and Hugs (Zoom)
Join us for another collective face to face and hugs, albeit through the computer screen. As part of this week’s session I will be sharing my screen with you and taking you on a short guided meditation.
Please bring your stories of positivity. And don’t forget to bring your funniest joke or meme to share with the group.
The session will last longer than 40 minutes as Walx Preston now has Premium access to Zoom.
Keep walking. Stay positive.
